Nebraska Wesleyan football excited to play different opponent

"I mean, this has been 503 days since we've played anybody," Keller said on Thursday

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — You don’t have to tell Nebraska Wesleyan football coach Brian Keller how long its been since his Prairie Wolves have faced an opponent on the field.

“I mean, this has been 503 days since we’ve played anybody,” Keller said on Thursday

Well, Wesleyan won’t play an official game Friday night, but it will get something. The Prairie Wolves were originally scheduled to host Buena Vista Friday, but the Beaver were unable to field a full team for the spring season. The NCAA postponed all Division-III fall sports to the spring because of the coronavirus pandemic.

The teams will have 7-on-7 drills before hosting a live scrimmage at Abel Stadium beginning at aprox. 6:40 p.m. on Friday.

Despite being unable to play an official game, the Prairie Wolves are still thrilled to be facing another opponent for the first time since Nov. 16, 2019.

“It’s been a long time,” said junior defensive back Jacob Gramann. “I can’t really think of anyone who’s taken it for granted at this point. These are the guys that love football. These are the guys that want to play.”

Said sophomore quarterback Carter Terry, “We’re prepared. We are all ready to go. I know these guys are excited to go play somebody else.”
