New hope coming for Nebraska families with missing loved ones

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — For more than 20 years, the family of a Lincoln mother of three has been working tirelessly to find her.

Now the Gina for Missing Persons Foundation says it’s close to getting support that could provide long-awaited answers to families across Nebraska.

The nonprofit announced that Gov. Pete Ricketts is going to sign a Nebraska Missing Persons Day Proclamation next week, on the anniversary of the disappearance of Gina Bos.

Bos was last seen near downtown Lincoln on Oct. 17, 2000, and was 40 the time she went missing.

Jannel Rap, Gina’s sister and the founder of the foundation, said the goal is to raise awareness of how many Nebraskans are missing.

Gina’s brother-in-law, Bill Lahman, said it’s good the state is having this day, even if it doesn’t help them find Gina.

“Somebody out there somewhere knows something, and any family that’s in this situation would like some kind of closure,” he said.

Lahman said he remembers how hard it was for them to deal with Gina’s disappearance, and he still thinks of her often.

“I’m an uncle to her kids. She was missed greatly by them,” he said. “She disappeared from Duggan’s Pub downtown, which is no longer around, but it was right there on the corner of 11th and K. Every time I drive down K Street and go by there, I think about that.”

Here are some of the other open cases Ricketts’ proclamation will call attention to:

  • Marilyn Alexander, who went missing in Lincoln in 2001 at age 39.
  • Christopher Loupin, who was 28 when he disappeared from a Buffalo County campground in 2019.
  • Tarie Price, who vanished along the Platte River in 2020, when she was only 8 years old.

“Hold them in your memory, even though you don’t have answers to what happened,” Lahman says. “Don’t lose the memories that you did have with that person and keep them alive in that way.”

The Governor’s Office confirmed that the proclamation will be made at the Capitol on Monday at 3:30 p.m.
