Solich spent 16 seasons coaching the Bobcats until his retirement in 2021.
During his time, he led the team to 11 bowl appearances, four Mid-American Conference East titles and one top 25 ranking.
To honor the coach’s legacy, the Ohio University board of trustees agreed to name the football field in Peden Stadium.
“I’m honored by the recognition and give credit to all the players and coaches who have been with me along the way,” Solich said in a press release. “The support from Bobcats students, fans and donors has always been appreciated and I thank them as well for their part in our success.”
The field will begin carrying the name at the first home game of the 2022 season against Florida Atlantic on Sept. 3.
A dedication ceremony will be held on senior night on Oct. 22, when the Bobcats face Northern Illinois.
In Nebraska, Solich spent 25 years on the Huskers coaching staff before being named Tom Osborne’s successor in December 1997.
Six seasons later, Solich was fired after going 9-3 in 2003. He ended his tenure with a 58-19 record.
Shortly after, Ohio welcomed the former Husker coach with open arms, and the rest is history.
Solich ended his career with 173 wins under his belt.
In June, Solich was named to the 2023 College Football Hall of Fame ballot.
