One dead, one behind bars after crash in eastern Nebraska

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – The Dodge County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a death in eastern Nebraska on Saturday.
Just before 5 p.m., a man called authorities and said he was in a crash on Highway 30 and County Road 5, just west of North Bend.
While first responders were on the way, additional calls came in saying a female was covered in blood in a nearby field, according to the sheriff’s office.
When deputies arrived, they began life-saving measures on the woman before she was transported to Fremont Methodist Hospital.
According to the sheriff’s office, the woman had injuries consistent with gunshot wounds.
The woman was then transferred to Nebraska Medicine by a helicopter where she died from her injuries.
With the assistance of multiple witnesses on scene, deputies were able to find the vehicle and the man was taken into custody without incident.
The sheriff’s office said the name of the woman is being held until next of kin is notified.
The investigation is ongoing.
