Shooting arrest

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — A man was arrested early Sunday morning after police say he shot a man in Norfolk.

Just after 2 a.m., officers with the Norfolk Police Department were sent to a home near East Park Avenue and Blaine Street on the report of gunshots.

When officers arrived, they found a man with a gunshot wound to his abdomen about two blocks away. The man was taken to a local hospital.

According to police, video of the shooting showed the victim knocking on the front door of the home.

Jose Lopes Jr., 23, answered the door and fired a shot above the victim’s head, police said.

According to police, an argument ensued for several minutes before Lopes fired another shot, hitting the victim in the right rib area.

The victim and a female who lives at the home had a prior relationship, according to police.

Lopes was arrested on suspicion of first-degree assault and use of a weapon to commit a felony.

He was housed in the Norfolk City Jail and later taken to the Madison County Jail.
