One killed in Sunday night rollover crash

MADISON, Neb. (KLKN) – On Sunday night, a man was killed and a woman was seriously injured in a single-vehicle rollover crash in Madison County.
According to Madison County Sheriff Todd Volk, around 8:35 p.m. Battle Creek Police Department and Battle Creek Fire & Rescue personnel responded to 832nd Road and 544th Ave., about 10 miles southwest of Battle Creek.
Around 8:30 p.m. a Pontiac Grand Prix drove off the road, ejecting the driver as it rolled.
First responders pronounced 37-year-old Shane Melcher of rural Meadow Grove dead at the scene.
First responders flew the passenger, 37-year-old Macaela Henkel also of rural Meadow Grove, to a local hospital due to serious injuries.
According to Volk, neither occupant of the vehicle was wearing seatbelts and alcohol may have played a role in the crash.
The cause of the crash is still under investigation by the sheriff’s office.
