‘Opens up the playbook’: Husker fans react to Raiola’s season-ending injury
LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – Nebraska’s offense will look quite different throughout the last month of the season, as quarterback Dylan Raiola is sidelined with a broken fibula.
And for many Husker fans, it’s not what they hoped for as the team nears the end of its schedule.
“We’re disappointed, of course, but it is what it is,” said Husker fan Tom Arts. “We just hope that he fully recovers and is ready for next year.”

Head coach Matt Rhule announced that the team will look to backup quarterback TJ Lateef to finish out the season.
Husker fan Austin Peters said having Lateef under center will make for an exciting change-up.
“I think it’s good,” he said. “I think a running quarterback is what we’re used to; it opens up the playbook a little bit more. It gives us some versatility that we might not have otherwise had and some potential playmaking ability. I think Rhule and Holgorsen will have to adjust and not be afraid to push the envelope because there’s nothing left to lose at this point.”
With all eyes on the freshman, many are eager to see what he can do.
“I think Lateef, with a little practice and more confidence, will do a good job,” Anita Arts said.
And they’re hoping the whole team can rally for the remainder of the year.
“I think they’re going to have to simplify some things and hope the defense steps up better,” Arts said.
Right now, the Huskers are bowl eligible — something Peters thinks fans will show out for.
“We’re going to go and we’re going to care more than the next person and the team that’s there, and that’s going to be a good sign for us, good experience for the guys,” he said.
