UPDATE: Five rescued in overnight fire

An excess of smoke forced residents on the second and third floor to be rescued from their balconies. 

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — UPDATE: Lincoln Fire and Rescue says a total of five people were rescued from the 2nd and 3rd floor due to smoke in the hallways.

LFR says a total of $100,000 worth of damage was done to the apartment. The people displaced from the fire are now with family members.

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — An apartment fire in South Lincoln displaced several residents early Tuesday morning. Fortunately, no one was injured.

Lincoln Fire and Rescue says the call came in a little before 2:00 a.m near 56th and Highway 2. The fire inspector says the blaze started with a pot on the stove in the second story of the building.

“The first arriving crew came in, did make a quick attack into the apartment of origin and put out the fire,” said battalion chief Mike Smith.
