LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – The first day of remote learning started Monday with the Lincoln Public School District but not without some major hiccups.

Several parents talked with Channel 8 News on their frustration and growing concern of their kids learning online, after the program had issues on the first day.  The school district said the technical problems were based on several reasons such as the amount of kids online, internet connectivity, Chromebooks, and other things.

One parent called the first day a ‘disaster’.

“As a parent this is frustrating, because we are trying to do what is best for our kids and I understand how difficult this has been for LPS and how frustrating all the calls must be however, I feel like they really need to do a better job supporting parents through this because as frustrated as they are, we are as well” an LPS parent said. She added it took multiple phone calls to the help line number and several hours for her daughter to finally get into the system Monday morning.

On the other side of town, another parent chimed in saying ” I feel so much for these teachers because they are trying so hard and have such positive attitudes and I am just impressed with the teachers.”

The Chief Technology Officer with the Lincoln Public School District spoke to Channel 8 saying he is confident this will not be an ongoing problem and they are working all angles to make sure online students will have the right resources needed to learn successfully.
