People struggling to get a full night’s rest face higher risk of medical problems

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – New research released shows people 50 and older who get less than five hours of sleep a night are more at risk of having serious health problems.

Researchers found those 50 and older who didn’t get enough sleep had a 30% higher risk of developing diseases such as cancer and other chronic conditions.

The study found the risk continued to increase for sleep deprived people as they got older.

People in their 70s had a 40% higher risk of developing a serious medical problem.
