Public invited to weigh-in on proposed LES price increases on Monday

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) —A busy agenda is slated for Monday’s Lincoln City Council meeting, including a possible increase to your energy bill.

Lincoln Electric System is looking to raise rates to around $5 or more per month for some of it’s customers. This comes after the utility company also raised its rates last year.

LES says energy costs have lowered recently, but they say it’s costing them more to recruit and retain employees.

Overall, this proposal is a 3.7 percent increase in rates system wide.

If approved, the increase would take effect Jan. 1st. City Council is holding a public hearing on the proposed changes at it’s meeting on Monday at 5 p.m.

The council is expected to vote on the changes on Nov. 20, according to LES.

City Council will also be discussing two low-income housing project proposals.

The first would cost $26 million for a 173-unit building near 10th St. and N St.

The second would be around $22 million and would be near 13th St. and E St. That building would be around 125 units.
