Rain changing to snow Thursday
Rain is likely as we head through the day on Thursday. Temperatures will remain warm enough for rain, but will start to cool off Thursday evening. That’s when the snow potential moves in.

A half of an inch to an inch is a possibility Thursday morning into Thursday afternoon. This will eventually change over to snow and then move out by late Thursday. It doesn’t look like we’ll see a freezing rain set up, the atmosphere isn’t set up right for that, but temperatures are expected to fall into the upper 20s by early Friday, so slick spots are certainly possible.

Below is what our StormCast weather model is showing for timing, location, and duration of the storm potential.
With as warm as it’s been and how slowly we’ll cool down, accumulating snow will be hard to come by. I have much of the state with less than an inch expected. Rain changes to snow Thursday evening for much of eastern Nebraska for a period of time, so I have this area shaded in a darker blue (below) depicting closer to 1″ of snow. Once the snow does begin, roads and sidewalks may become difficult. Either way, this isn’t a huge snow maker.

Afternoon temperatures will be quite a bit colder than we’ve seen recently, but warm enough for rain. We’ll eventually cool down to around the freezing mark after sunset Thursday.

After the rain changing to snow on Thursday, light snow is possible Friday and Saturday. If we don’t see any snow Thursday or just minor accumulations, we’ll easily warm back up next week. 50s will be back by Monday and Tuesday!
