Record-breaking heat on Tuesday; Relief soon to arrive
After a very hot Monday, we will continue the streak of hot temperatures into Tuesday. We’re forecasting a high near 101° in Lincoln. It’s going to be an uncomfortable day all-around, with humidity to go along with the heat. The vast majority of the day features mostly sunny skies.
There is a high chance of breaking some record highs on Tuesday. Lincoln’s forecast high of 101° would shatter the record of 96° set back in 2016 and 2018. Grand Island’s forecast high of 99° would easily beat the record of 95° set in 1920.
That said, summer will lose its foothold soon. A cold front arrives on Tuesday evening, which could spark a few late afternoon or evening storms. These appear to be very isolated in scope, and there’s a chance they may not develop in the first place. Nevertheless, don’t be surprised if you come across a stray shower on Tuesday evening.
We’ll be behind the cold front going into Wednesday, which means cooler air moves in. We’re forecasting highs in the 60s and 70s for the rest of the week. We also have an increase in rain chances starting Wednesday.
