Sandhills Global gifts $4 million to Lincoln Youth Complex
LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – Local company Sandhills Global gifted $4 million to the Lincoln Youth Complex, officials announced Thursday.
The Lincoln Chamber of Commerce said in a press release that the sports complex, which will be located near Oak Lake Park, is preparing to break ground in the spring.
“Lincoln is our home base, and we are proud to support the good work of many in the community who have made this wonderful project a reality,” said Shawn Peed, CEO of Sandhills Global, said in a press release.
Officials say the facility will be called the Sandhills Global Youth Complex.
Once finished, the complex will house eight baseball and softball fields, two of which will be used by Nebraska Wesleyan’s teams.
Another field is dedicated to Homer’s Heroes, a program for boys and girls with special needs.
“Sandhills was one of the initial funders for one of the five youth-specific fields in the complex,” Peed said in the release. “As we looked more closely at the impact of the complex in its entirety – from an economic standpoint for the region and most importantly for the youth in Lincoln/Lancaster County – we decided we could do more. Our company has a long history of quietly giving to the greater good in the community we call home. We are proud that this complex will bear the Sandhills name, and we’re excited for the impact it will have on the greater community.”
On Feb. 13, the Lincoln City Council gave final approval to use up to $4.5 million in federal COVID-19 aid for the project.
The complex is scheduled to be completed in the fall of 2024. More information can be found at lincolnyouthcomplex.com.
