Scott Frost says Huskers are ready to go for Purdue

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — There was nothing flashy about Scott Frost’s final press conference before his Huskers travel to Purdue this weekend. He says, they are just ready to play again after another heartbreaking loss a week ago to Iowa.

“They didn’t take it very well,” Frost said. “I hope that put a chip on their shoulder.”

Hopefully, that chip can light a fire under the Big Red as the regular season continues in December now when normally the year would be wrapped up by Thanksgiving.

“It’s been such a crazy year in a lot of ways,” Frost said. “I don’t want anyone to feel sorry for anyone that’s coaching or playing football because there are certainly more important things going on. Our guys want to play more games. But this late in the year it’s just unusual.”

Frost said he hopes the Huskers get all three opportunities to play here over the next couple weeks. That is still a big question mark with the growing COVID-19 cases nationwide. Minnesota and Michigan have all ready been forced to cancel their respective games this weekend with Ohio State’s matchup against Michigan State still very much in jeopardy.

Frost hopes the Big Ten will amend its rules to allow teams to replace the games they lost late in the season, but he said he’s going to leave that decision to the athletic directors.

“We just feel lucky and grateful that we’re getting to play,” Frost said. “We’re going to play any chance we get to play. I know safety comes first though.”

Other notes from Frost’s press conference:

  • Frost said they are going to keep their fingers crossed on whether senior running back Dedrick Mills will play on Saturday. Mills has missed the last two games with an undisclosed injury.
  • Frost mentioned he has “mutual respect” for Bob Diaco, a former Nebraska defensive coordinator who currently has the same role at Purdue. “He’s a established defensive coach,” Frost said. “He’s had good success.”
  • Saturday’s game will kickoff at 11:00 a.m. on BTN. You can watch Channel 8’s “Husker Power Hour” from 10:00-11:00 a.m. to breakdown the matchup.
