Severe Potential, Then Heat (6/12/2022)
There is a Slight Risk for severe storms across portions of Nebraska Sunday, June 12, 2022. However, the timing of the storms will differ for each area in the Slight Risk.
First, Sunday morning will see storms move through SE Nebraska and exit into Missouri and Kansas by mid morning. Those storms will continue to track southeast with large hail and damaging wind.
Then, another batch of storms will for in the panhandle Sunday afternoon and spread east. They will have the highest potential to be severe while in the western half of the state late afternoon and into the evening. They will eventually make their way into central and eastern Nebraska and while severe weather is still possible overnight, the threat will be considerably smaller.
Then we look towards next week. Heat and humidity will take hold and a Heat Advisory has been put in place for much of Nebraska for Monday as a heads up.
Temperatures on Monday will push into the upper 90s and lower 100s and with dew points in the 60s and 70s, we could see a heat index in the 105-109 range. It will be imperative to stay cool, stay hydrated, and limit outdoor activities.
