Smoke and haze likely this weekend
A warm weekend is headed our way, but it’s going to be windy with quite a bit of smoke and haze.
This is the time of year that parts of Kansas (Flint Hills) does a lot of controlled burning to improve the productivity of the range land for ranching practices. That, unfortunately, can mean a lot of smoke and haze if the wind is blowing from the south. When it does, like it will this weekend, we will have poor air quality and Air Quality Alerts are issued. Those who are unusually sensitive to particle pollution may experience health effects.
The worst of the smoke is likely in the morning hours of Saturday, but may linger all the way through Sunday morning.
The wind is expected to be out of the south gusting into the 35 to 45 mph range.
That gusty south wind will also warm us up by quite a bit. 80s are possible for a lot of us!
We’ll do the 80s again on Sunday, then cool off after a cold front rolls through. We may see a little rain late Sunday along that cold front. More rain is possible Wednesday and Thursday of next week.
