Authorities have arrested a man suspected of fatally shooting his father in south Lincoln.

The shooting happened around 5 a.m. Monday morning at a home near 13th and Washington St.

Lincoln Police Chief Jeff Bliemeister said 48-year-old Adolfo Aguado was shot and pronounced dead at the scene. The death is being investigated as a homicide.

Lancaster County Jail records show 21-year-old Adolfo Ortiz, Aguado’s son, was lodged Monday for second-degree murder and use of a weapon to commit a felony.

While in the home with Aguado, his wife and at least one child, Ortiz became agitated and retrieved a handgun from inside the home, Bliemeister said.

As family tried to escort Ortiz from the home, he fired several shots which struck and killed his father, Bliemeister said.

Investigators are still working to determine where inside the home the gun came from, and whether Ortiz owned it. Bliemeister said Ortiz did live in the home.

Ortiz is expected to be formally charged in court Tuesday afternoon.

This would be Lincoln’s fifth homicide of the year.
