Still very windy, and winter not done this week
As new falling snow clears the state early this morning, blizzard warnings have been downgraded to a Winter Weather Advisory for areas east of Lincoln and Beatrice through noon Wednesday.
This area including Omaha should plan on slippery road conditions with areas of blowing snow significantly reducing visibility. It’s very slick and slippery out!
And we are not done with the high winds today. A High Wind Warning (something we do not see often) remains in effect through noon Wednesday.
Gusts could still be around 55-60 mph – particularly during the early morning.
Travel is still not advised through large sections of eastern Nebraska.
It’ll be a day to keep an eye on road conditions with the 511 Nebraska map. That is where we get the data for the map below, showing road conditions across the state as of 7 a.m. Wednesday.
Blowing and drifting snow may be problematic for the morning commute as the winds howl, especially in more open areas.
Winds will start to slowly decrease through the afternoon hours.
We are going to see more sunshine today, as temperatures struggle to warm to the upper 30s.
And yet we are not done with winter this week.
More winter weather will start up on Thursday. A Winter Storm Watch has been issued for parts of northwest Nebraska for Thursday through Friday afternoon expecting heavy snow.
A rain to snow mix will be possible Thursday afternoon and evening, eventually transitioning to mostly snow on Friday.
Those north of I-80 may be looking at the higher snowfall totals with this round.
Beyond this week, we can look forward to much warmer temperatures climbing to the lower 70s next Monday and Tuesday.
