Storms overnight into Saturday morning
A Severe Thunderstorm Watch now in place until 6:00am Saturday.
A Tornado Watch is in place until 11pm MT in the panhandle, 1:00am CT Saturday for portions of central and western Nebraska.
Storms have already rolled through Lincoln Friday afternoon and more storms are possible tonight into early Saturday. We dry out Sunday into early next week, then more storm chances by Wednesday. Temperatures cool off Sunday, but we warm right back up Monday and beyond.
First, the good news. Above shows how much rain is possible for parts of Nebraska, especially north of I80, through early Saturday.
Now the bad news. The video above shows the storms rolling across the state. Any of those storm may become strong to severe. Details below.
There is an Enhanced Risk (level 3 of 5) in place for much of north central and NW Nebraska. This is the most likely area we’ll see severe storms. A Slight and Marginal Risk is in place for the rest of the state. Storms are also very possible in these areas overnight. See the graphic above for timing of the storms.
Early in the storm evolution, there will be a tornado threat in western Nebraska. As the storms evolve and move east, the treat for tornadoes will decrease.
Our main issue for much of Nebraska will be wind damage potential. Those areas that have the black dashed lines may see wind gusts in excess of 75 mph.
Large hail will also be an issue, especially in western Nebraska.
After the storms move through Saturday morning, it’ll get hot once again. Highs will be in the 80s and 90s.
