Severe Weather Potential:

Strong-to-severe storms are ongoing in portions of western and central Nebraska, with more to come Thursday evening and into the overnight. A Severe Thunderstorm Watch is in place from the panhandle into central Nebraska until 9 p.m. CDT (8 p.m. MDT) on Thursday, July 30. Further updates to this watch may be needed in the coming hours.

Isolated to scattered severe storms remain possible for the rest of the day on Thursday. A Slight Risk (Level 2 out of 5) of severe weather is in place for central and eastern Nebraska.

A brief spin-up tornado and large hail are possible in the strongest storms for western and portions of central Nebraska. The threat for damaging wind increases the further east you go.

Eastern Nebraska is also at risk for flash flooding as repeat rounds of rainfall continue to add to the rain gauge. A Slight Risk (Level 2 out of 4) of excessive rainfall is in place, according to the Weather Prediction Center.

Forecast:

Lows tonight will range from the middle 60s to the lower 70s across the state. Those under heavier cloud cover will hold onto the heat for a bit longer.

Storms likely for the Lincoln area early in the overnight hours. We should clear out close to sunrise, with minimal impacts to the morning commute expected.

Highs will be noticeably cooler in eastern Nebraska on Friday. Warmer weather continues for the western third of the state, as highs reach the upper 80s to lower 90s.

A few spot showers are possible throughout the late morning, with partly cloudy skies through the afternoon in the Capital City. Winds will pick up as well to close the work week, with wind gusts up to 40 miles per hour.

Cooler temperatures continue into the start of August, with a return to seasonal high temperatures by early next week. Our next best chance of precipitation will hold out until the middle of next week.
