Students and staff at Lincoln Pius X Catholic High School remember 17-year-old crash victim
LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – Lincoln Pius X High School usually serves a student body of nearly 1,200 students, but sadly, as of Friday it has been reduced by one.
Troy Jeffrey, a Junior at Pius X was just 17-years-old when he died in a car crash at 84th and O street just after 10:00pm on Friday, October 16, 2026.
Lincoln Police say a truck heading Eastbound slammed into the sedan that Troy was a passenger in; he was pronounced dead at the scene.
In preliminary reports, LPD says no drugs or alcohol were involved when the car Troy was in got struck.
At Pius X High, his fellow classmates are praying for him through their grief; embodying their school’s core values of faith, integrity, and service.
The school’s Facebook page says, “Troy is terribly missed,” and going on to say, “The unity of the Pius X community is apparent in its resilience.”
One student told Channel 8 on Wednesday that Troy is part of the routine prayers that students recite before each class.
The school also held a special rosary in his honor, allowing students and staff alike to lean on one another in these beginning days since Troy’s death.
Another student, who had class with Troy as a freshman, told Channel 8 that “Troy was the type of person you’d talk to once and feel like you’ve known him your whole life.”
Now, in his absence, classmates have decorated his locker with pictures, letters and mementoes.
As for Troy’s grieving family, his aunt set up a Go Fund Me page to help his parent’s during this troubling time.
With over 400 individual donations, the fund surpassed its initial goal of $28,000 within days; a testament to how deeply loved Troy was (a description written at the top of the webpage.)
The money raised will contribute to a memorial scholarship to Lincoln Pius X High School in Troy’s honor, as well as help cover Troy’s funeral expenses and cemetery costs.
His funeral is currently scheduled for this Friday at Cathedral of the Risen Christ.
