Sunny for Thursday, Storm Chances West
A pleasant afternoon is in store for your Thursday with high temperatures near-average for late August. Mostly sunny skies will persist for most of the afternoon with light winds.
Scattered strong to severe storms are possible Thursday evening for western and central Nebraska. A Slight Risk (Level 2 out of 5) of severe weather is in place, with the strongest storms capable of producing 2.00″ hail (hen-egg-sized) and wind gusts upwards of 75 miles per hour.
High temperatures will range from the middle to upper 80s across the state. Mostly sunny skies are expected statewide ahead of the evening chance for showers and thunderstorms.
Minimal impacts are expected for our Thursday afternoon in Lincoln with plenty of sunshine.
Overnight lows will be a couple of degrees warmer for Friday morning, with temperatures starting in the lower 60s.
Mostly clear skies continue into the overnight hours in the Capital City, which will give us a chance to see the partial lunar eclipse late Thursday evening!
Tonight’s partial eclipse begins shortly before 8:30 p.m., with the classic red glow starting around 9:30 p.m.
One to two strong-to-severe storms are possible again on Friday evening, this time in central Nebraska. A Marginal Risk (Level 1 out of 5) of severe weather is in place, with wind gusts up to 60 miles per hour possible.
Summertime heat and humidity build heading into the upcoming weekend. Above is a look at forecast high temperatures statewide on Friday and Saturday.
Mother Nature turns up the heat this weekend with high temperatures surging into the middle 90s. Humidity will increase alongside the warmer temperatures, pushing the heat index close to 100 degrees. The chance for showers and thunderstorms remains for the end of the weekend and into the start of next week. Temperatures continue at or slightly above average for the start of September.
