‘Super excited’: Thousands of fans meet players, then get first look at Huskers in action

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — Husker fans packed in the Hawks Championship Center on Saturday, all for a chance to greet the players they’ll be cheering for in less than a month.

“I just love coming here to interact with some of the players and the coaches,” Husker fan Chris Pearson said.

The line wrapped around the building, with some fans showing up hours in advance.

For one man who has a son on the team, it’s a chance to build a connection with his teammates.

“Fan Day gives me a chance to not only meet my kid, but also the guys that have become his brothers, that are on the line to protect him,” Rashawn Nelson said. “My son is a running back. My wife and I want to go see the offensive line and thank them for being his big brothers.”

The line to meet the quarterbacks quickly filled up as kids, parents and lifelong fans raced to meet Dylan Raiola.

Everything from posters to footballs to jerseys making their way into players hands to be signed.

Then, the crowd shifted to Memorial Stadium to see the players in action in an open practice at the Big Red Preview.

This was the first time Husker fans could buy alcohol at the stadium.

A few fans said they are looking forward to this change on the menu.

And Nelson said he is excited to see what the team can do this season.

“Super excited,” he said. “I’m expecting to see a growth. I’m expecting to see a different team than last year. I’m expecting to see our guys in their essence.”
