Teen gets up to life in prison for murder at Lincoln house party

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — A Lincoln teenager will spend the next several decades — and possibly the rest of his life — in prison for a deadly house party shooting.

Kashuan McCree, 19, was sentenced Thursday to 85 years to life in prison for first-degree murder and use of a firearm to commit a felony.

With credit for time served, he could be eligible for parole in about 41 years.

The shooting happened at a late-night house party on March 31, 2023, near 27th and Fair streets.

Police said McCree shot 18-year-old Damien Brave over a bag he was holding.

Brave went to a Lincoln hospital, where he died.

McCree, who was 17 at the time, was arrested six days later in Michigan.

He was convicted in November after an eight-day trial.
