Lincoln Police investigate shooting death at Friday night house party

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – An 18-year-old was killed in a north Lincoln shooting late Friday night, police say.

Around 11:30 p.m., officers were sent to a home near 27th and Fair Streets on a report of gunshots.

When officers arrived, police say several people were fleeing a house party.

Shortly after, an 18-year-old Lincoln man arrived at a hospital with gunshot wounds, according to police.

He later died from his injuries, police say.

Neighbors confirmed there was a house party happening at the time of the shooting, with multiple people coming and going from the area.

One neighbor, Kristy Osterman, said she didn’t hear gunshots, but her kids noticed the police in the area.

“My son was up playing video games and he said, ‘mom there’s lots of cop cars in the alley,'” she said. “So, we went back into the alley and there was like 10 cop cars and then all of a sudden we noticed that they were starting to wrap the crime tape around.”

Osterman said despite the shooting, she still feels safe living there.

“It’s a high crime area but I feel safe,” she said. “My kids have friends around here and it doesn’t bother me as long as I stay in my own bubble. There’s gonna be crime everywhere you go.”

An investigation is ongoing, and LPD is asking any eyewitnesses to help identify those responsible.

Anyone with information is asked to call Lincoln Police at 402-441-6000 or Crime Stoppers at 402-475-3600.
