‘The whole town is going to remember it’: Shepard’s buzzer-beating three secures state title for Bluejays

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – Ashland-Greenwood’s Evan Shepard downs the three-time defending champs, Millard North goes back-to-back, while Parkview Christian wins their first state title.

Scores and highlights from Saturday’s NSAA state basketball finals below:

BOYS STATE CHAMPIONS:

Class A – Millard North 67, Bellevue West 57

Millard North wins its second straight Class A boys basketball state championship. Mustangs senior guard David Harmon punctuated the victory with a two-handed slam in the closing seconds. Harmon led all scorers with 26 points and 8 rebounds, while Creighton commit Jasen Green added 13 points and 9 rebounds.

Class C1 – Ashland-Greenwood 36, Auburn 33

In what turned out to be an instant classic, Ashland-Greenwood’s Evan Shepard delivered a buzzer-beating three to defeat the three-time C1 defending state champion Bulldogs.

Cale Jacobsen, who assisted Shepard on the game-winner, finished with a team-high 12 points for Ashland-Greenwood. The shot that will be remembered in Ashland for decades to come won the Bluejays their first state title.

Class D2 – Parkview Christian 64, St. Mary’s 48

Parkview Christian used a dominating second half to bring home their first-ever state championship back to Lincoln. Michael Ault scored a game-high 19 points for the Patriots.

GIRLS STATE CHAMPIONS:

Class B – Elkhorn North 49, Omaha Skutt 36

Sophomore sensation Britt Prince had 21 points, 7 assists, and 6 rebounds to lead Elkhorn North to their second straight title in the second year of the school’s existence.

Class C2 – Hastings St. Cecilia 40, Bridgeport 38

Bailey Kissinger (17 points) scored a putback layup late in the fourth quarter to give Hastings St. Cecilia a lead they would not relinquish. The Hawkettes win their third state title in four years.

Class D1 – Humphrey/Lindsay Holy Family 42, Shelton 34

In a battle of Bulldogs, Humphrey/LHF proved to be the top dog. Addison Schneider led her team to victory with 12 points and 14 rebounds, while teammate Lexi Frauendorfer added 1o points and 11 boards.
