Two dead after two crashes in Omaha

LINCOLN, Neb (KLKN) –Two crashes within one mile of each other left two men dead in Omaha on Saturday.

The first crash happened at 2:20 in the morning on 26th and L Street.

Omaha Police said a motorcyclist driving a Harley Davidson westbound on L street hit a 2021 Chevy Silverado going eastbound on L street.

When the truck made a left turn onto Highway 75, it crashed into 45-year-old motorcyclist Gary S. Mangiameli.

The Omaha Fire Department transported Mangiameli to CHI Health Creighton University Medical Center – Bergan Mercy, where he was pronounced dead.

OFD said Mangiameli was wearing a helmet when the accident happened.

Officers said the driver of the Silverado, 38-year-old Lorena Lara-Diaz of Marshall, Missouri, was driving under the influence.

She was arrested on suspicion of refusing a preliminary breath test, refusal of a DUI test, driving under the influence, and motor vehicle homicide.

Officers were called to a second crash later that night at 11:14 p.m.

Police said 22-year-old Jaime Garcia, hit 76 -year-old John G. Gomez with his Honda Civic when he was walking across L Street.

Gomez was taken to Nebraska Medical Center by Omaha Fire Department where he was pronounced dead.

Authorities said the intersection does not have a crosswalk.

The crash is currently under investigation.
