LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — Three people will be facing charges in Stanton County after two teenagers were stabbed Thursday with a butcher knife.

It happened around 5:30 p.m. at a home in Pilger, according to the Stanton County Sheriff’s Office.

When deputies arrived, they found two youths with injuries from a large butcher knife.

A 16-year-old girl and a 14-year-old boy were treated at the scene, but the girl was taken to a hospital for further treatment.

The sheriff’s office said the 16-year-old was the one wielding the knife.

The girl —who is still in the hospital — will be charged with second-degree assault, use of a weapon to commit a felony, disturbing the peace and being an uncontrollable juvenile.

Kaylee Allen, 22, was arrested on suspicion of third-degree assault and disturbing the peace.

The 14-year-old male was cited for the same charges.

According to the sheriff’s office, it had responded to a disturbance at the same home among the same people earlier in the day.

The sheriff’s office also said it has had numerous contacts with the 16-year-old girl in the last several weeks.

“This is a perfect example of our broken system, as we are not equipped and lack resources in dealing with juveniles that are often suffering from mental illness and lack of parental involvement or control,” Sheriff Mike Unger said in a press release. “Law enforcement does the best we can with what we have to work with and we are fortunate that no one was more seriously injured or killed in this incident.”
