Two ticketed after firing guns in Lincoln during New Year’s celebration

Police say the shots were fired at a home near North First Street and Cornhusker Highway

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – Shots were fired into the air, and citations were handed out during a New Year’s celebration in Lincoln, police say.

Just before 1 a.m., officers were sent to a home near North First Street and Cornhusker Highway after a caller reported someone shooting a gun into the air.

When officers arrived, they found a 42-year-old woman and a 24-year-old man.

After an investigation, officers learned that the two had been firing guns in the air to celebrate the new year, police say.

With the approval of the resident, officers searched the home and found three handguns, according to police.

Both were cited for discharging a firearm in the city, which is a misdemeanor.
