Ty Hahn preparing for freshman year with Huskers in quarantine

JOHNSON, Neb. – Football is always on the mind of Ty Hahn.

The Johnson-Brock senior standout on the football field and the basketball court has been studying constantly to prepare for his freshman season as a walk-on with Husker football. He’s even made flashcards to study with while being quarantined due to the coronavirus pandemic.

“You know I’m staying in contact,” Hahn said. “I’m in meetings. So I’m staying on top of learning things so that’s been pretty fun and exciting. I’m really just excited to learn. I’m able to get a head start you know since I’m not able to enroll yet. Usually, in a regular year, you wouldn’t start this stuff until you enroll. Luckily, I’m home and able to do this stuff so I’m pretty excited for that.”

Hahn, who won a football and basketball state title with the Eagles, feels confident he can make a big impact with Nebraska from day one.

He likes to model his game after another walk-on, Hunter Renfrow. Of course, Renfrow walked-on at Clemson and caught the game-winning touchdown to beat Alabama and win the national championship for the Tigers in 2016.

Renfrow had 49 catches for 605 yards and four touchdowns in his rookie season with the Raiders.

“He just put his head down, went to work and made plays,” Hahn said of Renfrow. “That’s just something I want to do.”

Hahn had over 1,000 receiving yards and 20 or more touchdown catches in each of his three seasons at Johnson-Brock.
