Union College honors student killed in motorcycle crash in south Lincoln
LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — A Lincoln college on Thursday morning honored a senior student who died in a motorcycle crash this week.
Union College said Caleb Long, 21, was in the school’s biomedical program.
He was killed Tuesday night in a crash at 70th Street and Nebraska Parkway.
Union College spent part of its chapel service Thursday morning honoring Long. You can watch it online.
This came less than 24 hours after friends and colleagues gathered for a vigil to honor Long and share stories about him.
In a Facebook post by Union College, one of Long’s professors, Christina Burden-Page, recalled his eagerness to learn.
“He had an openness and honesty in how he approached everything,” she said. “He was ready to laugh and ready to do the hard work. The conversations we had together were so uplifting.”
The college said Long, who was from Minnesota, was completing his senior year. He was one of 30 students out of 288 who applied to be accepted into Union’s physician assistant program next fall.
Long died in the second deadly motorcycle crash in Lincoln this week.
Lincoln Police said 50-year-old Jason Colby of Walton died Sunday night after a collision near 84th and A streets.
