Vehicle fire quickly spreads to grass on northern Lancaster County property

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — Firefighters contained a grass fire on a northern Lancaster County property early Wednesday morning.

The Raymond Volunteer Fire Department responded around 6:30 a.m. to a blaze near First Street and Davey Road.

Raymond Assistant Fire Chief Josh Hornung said a man was trying to get his car out of a ditch when the vehicle caught fire.

The flames spread to grass in the area.

It took crews about 40 minutes to put out the fire, and they used about 6,000 gallons of water, Hornung said.

The Ceresco Volunteer Fire Department and the Lancaster County Sheriff’s Office also responded to the blaze.

The Raymond department has battled several fires this week, including one that destroyed an outbuilding and killed several livestock.
