Veronica Ortega

Veronica was born and raised in Chicago, where she was a Girl Scout and participated in basketball and track & field. She also enjoyed going to the White Sox games with her family. She wants everyone to know that she is not a Cubs fan.

Veronica’s love for storytelling led her to De Paul University where she earned a bachelor’s degree in history and then a Master’s Degree in Journalism. While in school she was an intern at WGN and interned at Chicago’s PBS Station, WTTW on the Emmy Award winning show “Check Please!” Veronica is an overnight reporter for Channel 8 Eyewitness News. While most are sleeping, she is out covering the news. “If I can somehow impact people and change the world through my (news) stories, I know all of my hard work was worth it”, says Veronica. You can see her on the Channel 8 Eyewitness News at 5AM and 6AM.

She has always had a very active imagination, which is why she loves to read. In her opinion, the Harry Potter series is the best of all time. She likes to read other fantasy and science fiction books. She also likes to go to the movies and spending time with her two dogs, Wishbone and Ozzie.
