Warming day by day with occasional summer storms
Cooler weather over the early August weekend gave us a taste of fall in the summer. Highs were only in the lower 70s because of rain and clouds on Sunday.
As we move into this first full week of August, temperatures are expected to warm day by day.
Occasionally, we’ll have a chance of rain especially late and overnight during the week. Monday morning has started with an area of rain sliding mostly just west of Lincoln by a county or so.
Eventually the rain will dissipate with more sunshine by the afternoon and temperatures warming to about 80°.
Stronger storm clusters will be possible out in western Nebraska (similar to the chances they had over the weekend). Scattered severe storms will be possible by the evening timeframe.
The Storm Prediction Center has a Slight (Level 2 of 5) risk over much of that area, with storms threatening an isolated tornado, large hail 2″+ in diameter possible and damaging wind.
By Tuesday, the risk for severe weather shifts north. Overall, the severe threat will be isolated with southward extent into northern Nebraska. Some isolated storms could threaten some severe wind gusts and hail.
The middle of the week will bring a Marginal (Level 1 of 5) risk for severe weather over central Nebraska. Isolated storms will be possible with any areas that really get to heat up during the day, or along any leftover boundaries in the area.
Any storms that can get going could threaten a few severe gusts and hail, though the threats aren’t expected to be widespread.
Hot, humid days are looming just past the middle of the week toward Thursday and Friday. Those days we could be “feeling like” the lower 100s again.
That could make for some great last-minute pool trips before school starts back up again next week, though!
