Areas of western, south, and southeastern Nebraska fall under the severe weather risk on Sunday. The Storm Prediction Center is placing us under a Slight (Level 2 out of 5) Risk with large hail, damaging winds, and areas of localized flooding possible.

Throughout Saturday night, models have been trending toward a line of storms progressing towards the Capital City around 7 a.m. on Sunday. If this verifies, there will be a potential for damaging winds in our area.

However, if this line does not hold together overnight, the environment in our area will be favorable for afternoon/evening storm development. Stormcast shows storms initiating around 8 p.m. CDT on Sunday, and intensification along the cold front by 10 p.m. CDT across much of southeastern Nebraska. Low temperatures for tonight will fall into the upper 60s and lower 70s with partly cloudy skies and winds out of the south-southeast.

Highs across the region on Sunday will be in the lower 90s, with warmer temperatures. We could see a few clouds alongside a wind out of the south bringing us plenty of heat and moisture.

For the Capital City, temperatures will not stay below 80 degrees for long, with temperatures in the lower 90s throughout the afternoon.

For the rest of the week, we will stay in the lower to mid-90s with mostly sunny skies for the first week of July. Independence Day is expected to be hot with an isolated shower or thunderstorm possible. Increased cloud cover and more chances for storms will follow the holiday weekend.
