Weekend winds keep howling into Sunday

A windy start to the weekend, indeed! A cold front has been working its way through our area, dropping temperatures slightly and strong northwest winds. Throughout Saturday afternoon, wind gusts were exceeding 50 miles per hour in many locations, including Lincoln Airport.

Wind Reports

As this system moves to our southeast overnight, winds will decrease only slightly overnight. It’ll still be breezy with gusts over 25 miles per hour possible. Skies will be mostly clear, so temperatures will still be dropping into the lower 40s and upper 30s. It’ll be another cooler start to Sunday morning.

Then through the morning hours, winds will pick up fast. Gusts over 30 and 35 miles per hour will be possible throughout the day, exceeding 40 miles per hour into the afternoon. This time, the winds are because of a strengthening upper-air system that we’ll be able to mix down some of the stronger winds to the surface.

Sun Gusts

Wind was accompanied by 70s on Saturday, but temperatures will only be in the lower 60s Sunday. Our last day of April will be on the cooler side of average, with May right around the corner.

Jess Tomorrow Hour By Hour

The quiet, very dry pattern that has exposed some of our area to more fire dangers looks to shift for more precipitation by the second half of this week.
