Westlake Ace Hardware raising money for fans for those in need

Partnering with Salvation Army, store gives away hundreds of fans each year

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – While summer may not officially be here for another few weeks, it’s already time to start thinking about staying cool.

There are many people in Lincoln who can’t afford air conditioning and rely on fans to stay cool.

So the Salvation Army and the Westlake Ace Hardware stores in Lincoln are teaming up for their 10th annual fan drive.

Every year, Ace asks customers to consider rounding up their purchases to donate to the fundraiser.

In the last decade, it has raised more than $26,000, and each year, it gives away hundreds of fans.

Westlake Ace general manager Michael Clark said he loves giving back to the community, calling it one of his favorite parts of the job.

“I think it’s more important now than ever, with the rise of costs everywhere, between fuel costs, heating and cooling costs, equipment costs,” he said. “This year it’s probably more important than it’s ever been.”

The drive goes through June 19 and is at every Ace Hardware store in Lincoln.

Customers can round up their purchases but can also donate any amount of cash to the fundraiser.

If customers can’t make it to a store, they can go to Westlake Ace Hardware’s website to donate.
