Will Bolt acknowledges Nebraska bullpen had ‘miserable’ stats in opening series
LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – In the first four games of the season, Nebraska baseball’s pitching staff gave up 38 runs against San Diego.
Three of those games ended in a loss, while one ended in a tie due to the Huskers’ travel considerations.
Head coach Will Bolt said Wednesday that he will have to “take a broader look at things” after the rocky start to the season.
“It’s obviously disappointing, you know, to start the way that we started,” he said.
Jace Kaminska, who pitched five innings on Saturday, said the Huskers will have to respond to the adversity.
“You just got to take it for what it is and learn from it,” he said.
Bolt said the weekend’s starting pitchers did a “nice job” but didn’t think the Huskers’ bullpen was very competitive.
“We keep track of first-pitch strikes, 1-1 counts, 3-2 counts, shutdown innings,” he said. “We were miserable in all those categories.”
Now back in Nebraska, Bolt said the Huskers are going to have to sort some things out.
“We’re gonna continue working at it,” he said. “And this team, they’re going to have resiliency.”
Nebraska will now travel to Mobile to face South Alabama in a three-game series starting on Friday.
