Wymore Head Start program preparing to open the doors of new facility

WYMORE, Neb. (KLKN) – After 32 years, the Wymore Head Start Program is starting a new chapter in a new facility.

Inside the new Head Start building, classrooms are coming to life.

The new facility includes larger spaces, a kitchen, a conference room and tighter safety; all designed to further support the early learning and family support that Head Start provides.

“Just knowing that we are in a facility that is safe and inviting for the children, it’s all ADA accessible so that’s important to us,” said Shari Weber, the CEO of Blue Valley Community Action. “And just a really great environment for children to be able to learn and grow.”

Head Start helps prepare children ages 3-5 for school, while also connecting parents to resources like health and social services.

Weber said moving into this building is like a fresh start.

They’re hoping this will make it easier to bring families together, all while providing wider outreach to the Wymore community.

“Our long term dream is to be able to expand and provide more Head Start classroom experiences or more enrollment slots,” Weber said. “Or to be able to provide a 0-3 program for young children. So the long-term goal will have to wait until funding becomes available but we built this facility with the hope of growing in this community.”

The team is hoping to show off the facility during an open house in the middle of November.

And while they still have a lot more work to do, Weber said they’re eager to welcome kids back in just a few weeks.

“It is just going to be a little bit of stress off of our staff to know that the children are in a new, clean environment and that they have the sufficient space to be able to provide the services,” she said.

Weber said they are hoping to be able to start classes on November 3rd.
