YouTube star Cam Wilder returning to Lincoln; organizers working to avoid last year’s chaos

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — A year ago, hundreds of kids packed a Lincoln basketball court to see YouTube basketball star Cam Wilder.

Police came to remove everyone from Antelope Park because of the size of the crowd.

Wilder is returning to town on Friday, and this year, the event is expected to be even bigger.

But organizers said things are different now.

“Last year’s blessing was actually a blessing,” said Clay Anders, founder of the Honesty Project.

About 3,000 people are expected to come to the event at the Sandhills Global Event Center.

Organizers said they’re working closely with Lincoln Police, Lincoln Fire & Rescue and private officers to increase security.

Anders said there will be about 25 to 35 security officers, including 10 to 15 LPD officers.

There’s also a preregistration list, so organizers will know who’s attending beforehand.

“We have a lot of volunteers that are going to help cover this,” Anders said. “So we don’t have to worry about some of the same issues we had last year where people are just randomly showing up and doing as they please.”

Anders said he built his platform on positivity.

“This event means a lot because it took a lot of work,” he said. “The Lord really blessed us with a lot of resources, and I can’t thank him enough.”

Anders said he’s also stepping up and speaking out about accountability, using his voice to encourage young people to stay focused and out of trouble.

And that’s why this year, he’s starting things off a little bit differently before Wilder hits the court.

Anders will tell them how Jesus Christ changed his life.

“It wasn’t my doing; it wasn’t just one person’s doing,” he said. “All these did not come together by chance. This is by divine intervention, and I’m so grateful that the Lord has allowed this to happen. And whoever comes here, I just want y’all to come and hear with open ears and open hearts and not judge me because I wouldn’t judge all.”
