12-year-old boy accused of using toy in failed robbery at a Grand Island park
LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — A 12-year-old boy was arrested in Grand Island on Tuesday night after police say he used a toy gun in an attempted robbery.
It happened around Pier Park just after 6:30 p.m.
Police say the boy pulled the toy on a driver and their passenger, while demanding money.
But the driver refused to hand over anything of value, according to officials.
Police said the boy’s 16-year-old brother was cheering him on during all of this.
Both of them were eventually arrested, and officers found the toy, which they say had been spray-painted.
The 12-year-old is charged with attempted robbery and making terroristic threats.
His brother is charged with aiding and abetting an attempted robbery.
Both of the victims told police they feared for their safety but appear to be OK.
