21st Annual Lincoln Arts Festival

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – This weekend, the Lincoln Arts Festival featured over 90 artists from around the country.

The festival is in its 21st year hosted by the Nebraska Arts Council.

“It’s unique, and it’s really nice to shop from an artist because there’s a story behind it, you know who made it, and it’s just a really great time to buy art,” said Alexandra McCracken, the council event manager.

With national, local, and emerging artists, the event had something in store for everyone.

One newcomer, Hannah Demma, was shocked when she learned she received the festival’s Best in Show award.

“It feels really good to have them recognize how much effort goes into my pieces because handmade paper… you make the paper and then you do another step by working with it so… it’s very labor-intensive and it just feels really nice to be recognized,” said Demma.

Each year, the council brings in five judges to select winners. Awards are given to artists who stand out to the judges. Some of the awards include Best Nebraskan Artist, Best Newcomer, Best in Show, and several more.

Demma was awarded a medal and cash prize for her work in printmaking for the Best in Show award.

“I mean it feels crazy because everyone here is so talented,” she said.

The event took place on Canopy Street and in the Railyard.
