On Wednesday, officials announced the New York City Marathon is cancelled due to COVID-19. Officials say the health risks were just too great.

Originally scheduled for November, it would have been the 50th running of the marathon.

One Lincoln woman had earned a spot to participate in the run. She says the cancellation was not unexpected, but she still plans to reach that finish line, even if it’s not in 2020.

“It’s good to know now that it’s been cancelled and not have the unknown of the race, just wondering if it was going to happen or am I training for nothing,” said Lincoln runner Carly Morse. “The plus side of it all is just finding that joy, or reaffirming that joy, of being a runner… you know [the marathon] will be something to look forward to next year. A redo, hopefully, of that 50th race again in 2021!”
