Severe Weather Potential:

Scattered to isolated severe storms remain possible in southeast Nebraska through Tuesday evening. A Marginal Risk (Level 1 out of 5) of severe weather is in place, with large hail, damaging winds and localized flooding the main concerns in the strongest storms.

We will likely see multiple waves of showers and storms through the rest of Tuesday evening. Above is the latest run of StormCast, showing what the radar could look like through Wednesday.

With the second round of showers and storms expected to develop, we could see localized flash flooding. A narrow band of excessive rainfall will be possible through the overnight hours.

Our next cold front moves through on Friday evening, bringing another chance for severe weather. The Storm Prediction Center has already outlined portions of central and eastern Nebraska for the potential of severe weather to end the work week.

Forecast:

We look to make a return to the 60s by the start of the day on Wednesday in southeast Nebraska. Even cooler weather is expected to our north and west.

Showers and thunderstorms remain possible through the overnight hours in Lincoln, with heavy rainfall the main concern in storms by early Wednesday morning.

Pleasant weather is expected statewide for Wednesday afternoon, with highs reaching the lower to middle 80s. We should be noticeably less humid midweek as well!

A few passing showers are possible in the Capital City at the start of the day, but will give way to mostly sunny skies. Afternoon temperatures will be a stark difference from Tuesday, only reaching the lower 80s.

A similar day lies ahead for Thursday, with warmer weather returning for the panhandle and into western Nebraska.

Friday will likely be our warmest day in the extended forecast, before a cold front returns us to the upper 70s for the weekend. With the next passing disturbance, a few showers and thunderstorms cannot be ruled out. Temperatures will be at or below average by the middle of September.
