$600,000 of cocaine found after police chase in Lincoln
LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — Around 11:30 a.m. on Sept. 1, Lancaster County Sheriff’s Office’s (LSO) Criminal Interdiction Unit performed a traffic stop that ended in an arrest due to narcotics found.
The deputy proceeded with the traffic stop and asked the driver to get out of his vehicle. The driver then sped off.
The deputy and additional units engaged in a pursuit. The pursuit went through a residential area where the suspect drove through a yard causing $500 worth of damage. At this point, the deputy and responding units stopped pursuing.
The driver then got stopped a train, where deputies were about to block him in and take him into custody.
The driver was identified as Clinton McGhee, 51, of Omaha.
During the pursuit, McGhee threw a backpack out of his window. After obtaining and searching the backpack, deputies found 13 pounds of cocaine. According to Chief Deputy Ben Houchin, the street value of that amount is $600,000.
McGhee was arrested and lodged for possession with intent to deliver cocaine, fleeing to avoid arrest, criminal mischief, drug stamp violation, driving under suspension and possession of currency.
“I hate pursuits. They’re dangerous,” Houchin said. “The Lincoln Police Department and the sheriff’s office did an outstanding job during this pursuit. They’re never safe but it was highly professional. I’m very proud of them.”
