62-year-old man arrested after reportedly striking man with his walking stick

A man was arrested after police say he struck another man and a car with a walking stick. 

Officers responded just before 8 p.m. Tuesday to the area of 12th and E Street after a 61-year-old man reported being assaulted. 

A witness told officers a man, identified by police as 62-year-old Billy Williams, struck a car mirror with his walking stick and then struck the victim in the back. 

Police said the victim had a 12-inch welt on his lower back. 

Williams reportedly ran when officers found him near 12th and D Street. He was caught about a block away and arrested for third-degree assault, vandalism and failure to comply with the lawful order of a police officer.
