Lincoln woman charged with tampering with evidence after fatal hit-and-run

A Lincoln woman has been charged with tampering with physical evidence after she allegedly helped a driver involved in a fatal hit-and-run hide her vehicle.
After reviewing surveillance video, investigators arrested Kimberly Cowell, 50, who admitted she had helped her daughter, Casey Maxfield, dispose of Maxfield’s car in a creek, according to court documents.
Maxfield, 21, was arrested last month. Authorities said she struck and killed a pedestrian near South 10th and South Street, left the scene, then drove her car into Salt Creek where it was ultimately recovered by police.
According to an arrest affidavit, Maxfield went to Cowell’s home after the accident asking told her she had “hit someone” and “didn’t know what to do.” Cowell reportedly told investigators the women agreed to dispose of the vehicle, before dumping it in the creek.
A judge set Cowell’s bond at $2,500. She is scheduled to appear in court next month.
Maxfield, who faces two felony charges, is scheduled to appear in court next week.
