DEA collects more than 440 tons of unwanted prescriptions, vaping devices

The U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) collected 882,919 pounds of unwanted, unused and expired prescription medications and vaping cartridges at the 18th National Prescription Drug Take Back Day. 

The October 26 event saw 4,390 pounds of medications and vaping cartridges collected in Nebraska at 35 collection sites. The total was higher than that in 12 other states. 

This year was the first time in the event’s history that vaping devices and cartridges were collected. 

Individuals unable to drop off medications on National Take Back Day can locate secure disposal sites by visiting www.takebackday.dea.gov or by calling 1-800-882-9539.
