Mild today, before rain and snow arrive tomorrow 1/13/2022
We are off to warmer start this morning with temperatures in the 30s and even 40s for some of you! Wind chill values are in the 20s and 30s, so while we are warmer this morning, you will still want your coat. The first half of your Thursday will start off mostly clear, but clouds will gradually build into the area as we head further into the afternoon. This won’t have much of an impact on temperatures though! Highs will still warm into the mid-50s across the area, although this will be the last time we see highs in the 50s for awhile.
A winter system will inch closer to Nebraska overnight tonight and increases our cloud coverage. Overnight lows stay mild in the upper 20s thanks to cloudy skies, but Friday temperatures struggle to warm. Highs will only warm into the upper 30s and low 40s for most tomorrow. On top of the cooler temperatures, most of eastern Nebraska could see some snow! Rain and a wintry mix will fall for the first half of your Friday, but we will eventually see a transition to snow by the late afternoon and evening. Snow bands will continue to move through overnight and into early Saturday morning. The heaviest of snow will remain on the Iowa side and will just happen to barely clip far eastern Nebraska. Totals will quickly drop the further to the west that you go thanks to a sharp gradient. Lancaster County could see around 2-4 inches, with higher totals expected further to the east. PLEASE check back for more updates today and tomorrow, as one tiny factor could easily change snow totals leading up to the event.
